Subject areas
To enable an evaluation according to the KDSF standard, content must be assigned to a subject area. This is defined by the subject classification system of the Federal Statistical Office.

Research data
Data generated or collected during the research process. They include experimental results, survey data, observational data, etc. They represent a central basis for scientific work and serve to document the results.

Research information
Research information comprises structured data and facts on the research activities, achievements and results of an institution or researcher. It is used for the systematic recording, analysis and reporting of scientific work, for example on projects, publications, third-party funding or collaborations.

Kerndatensatzforschung, KDSF (Corse Data Set for Research)
Standard for research information in Germany:
The KDSF is a standard for the collection of research information in the German science system. It serves as a voluntary set of rules that supports the harmonization and standardization of research reporting at universities and scientific institutions. In 2016, the Science Council recommended its introduction for uniform application in Germany.
The KDSF provides a guideline according to which research-related data should be recorded and stored consistently and in an aggregatable form in order to facilitate comparison and evaluation.

O

Open Access
Free and unrestricted access to scientific publications. The aim is to make research results accessible without financial, legal or technical barriers.

ORCID
A unique digital identifier (ID) for scientists that is used worldwide to identify authors and researchers in publications.

P

Publication record
A systematic listing of publications by a researcher or institution, often used to document research results.

Rights in the FIS
"Rights" in the FIS regulate access to certain functions and data. They determine which users can view, edit or delete which information. Rights are linked to the user role and ensure that only authorized users have access to confidential or sensitive data. Examples of rights include access to project reports or the creation of data records.

Role
A role comprises a series of rights that determine what content a person is allowed to view and edit. These roles are assigned to individual users to perform specific tasks. Users can have multiple roles and switch flexibly between these roles depending on the requirements of the task at hand.

Rights and roles concept
The roles and rights concept defines the assignment of user roles to specific rights within the database. A role is a group of rights that is assigned to a user or user group in order to perform certain tasks. This concept ensures a structured and secure system for managing research data and processes.
